Summary:
Evie finally has the normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that being ordinary can be . . . kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency, she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from all the normalcy, she agrees.
But as one disastrous mission leads to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself.
So much for normal.
My Thoughts:
Paranormalcy was easily one of my favourite novels released in 2010, so when I began reading Supernaturally, it was only natural that I would have high expectations. I’m so glad to say I wasn’t disappointed one bit! Once again, Kiersten White delivers in the best possible way to give us another bleeping awesome novel!
While I didn’t think the plot was necessarily as strong as its predecessor, Supernaturally makes up for it with its ever fun and light writing style that I completely adore. And, of course, there was Jack, a new character introduced to us. Now, before you all start groaning about another love interest, I’m going to point out that he isn’t one. Instead, Jack keeps Evie (and us!) on our toes with his love for causing a bit of mischief and becomes a friend for her when she needs one. And speaking of Evie, she may have had good intentions but she did make some misguided decisions in the novel. But, I can forgive her this time as she learned from them… which is important in my books!
I did wish there was a bit more of Lend in the novel, but I still think of him as an absolute sweetheart. Evie might be willing to keep a secret or two from him, but I was silently pleading with her to share the burden of what she had learned because you just know that he would understand with his kind, caring ways. And Reth fans! I’m sure you’ll be glad to know that he’s back and willing to share some of his knowledge of Evie’s mysterious heritage that has relations to the faeries. You may just be taken by surprise with what you learn!
If you haven’t even read Paranormalcy yet, seriously, what are still waiting for? These novels are like a breath of fresh air in a genre that can become overcrowded with too many supernatural lookalikes. And just as with Paranormalcy, I have fallen in love with Supernaturally too! Now there’s just the anxious year-long wait to see how the trilogy will finish with Endlessly…

I thought Jack was such a fun character and wanted to see more of Lend too. Great review, Liz. I'm looking forward to seeing how things will be wrapped up in Endlessly as well.
ReplyDeleteI so need to read Paranormalcy... Anyway, glad you liked this one as well, I'm always a bit hesitant about second books in a trilogy cause they sometimes suffer from sudden-plot-death.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!
Great review! I read Paranormalcy recently and really liked it. I can't wait to get my hands on Supernaturally :)
ReplyDeleteLike you, I enjoyed both of these novels as well. This one was definitely different than Paranormalcy but I appreciated that. I do wish Evie was a bit more honest with Lend but as you mentioned, I think she learns her lesson. Great review!
ReplyDeleteDid you really have to mention that it's a year long wait until Endlessly? *sobs* So glad you loved this! I adored Jack. He made me laugh so much. I love Kiersten White's writing - her stories are so addictive! Great review!
ReplyDeleteWow, glad to see that it didn't disappoint! Jack sounds like a fun addition...wonderful review :)

ReplyDeleteI just got my copy! I came home from two hellish bus rides and it was just sitting there near the downstairs door.
:)
I can't wait to read it, I'm even thinking of ditching my current read and delving into Supernaturally.
:) And your review just keeps tipping the scale that way. Thanks for talking about this JAck Character, :) I'm glad he's not 'love interest' :D
You don't even know how relieved I was that Jack wasn't a love interest when I was reading. These books continue to stay away from the factors that are getting a little overwhelming for me right now in YA lit.
ReplyDeleteLoved this book! So glad that you did too :) Fabulous review.
I'm really anticipating the next book. I wished there was more of Lend too but the ending with Evie going back to Lend was so sweet.
ReplyDeleteOoh so glad you enjoyed it - I loved Paranormalcy and can't wait to read this! Dying to meet this Jack character, he sounds really fun. Thanks for the great review :)
