Book Blogger Hop + Follow Friday (11)
11:24 PMFollow Friday and Book Blogger Hop are weekly events hosted by Rachel at Parajunkee and Jennifer at Crazy-for-Books respectively.
This week's FF question is: What did you study in college, or are currently studying and did it lead to your current 9 to 5 or are you doing something totally different?
I'm currently a first-year university student studying life sciences but hoping to take some more English-related courses next year because it's something I'm more interested in. I've never had a job before except for maybe helping out my Dad now and then for his work... I focused on my school work in high school rather than getting one. I've always imagined my first job to be at a book store though!
This week's BBH questions is: What do you consider most important in a story, the characters or the plot?
Ugh! Tough question because I really do think they both go hand in hand! A great plot will engage you, keep you reading, and let the characters grow. They draw out your emotions, terrifying you one moment and leaving you breathless in another. They take on journeys to other worlds which you could never imagine. A book without a great storyline is not worth reading at all. But the same is true for characters! I don't want to read a book where the whole time I hate them and can't stop complaining about their actions. A story needs characters which people can relate and sympathize with so there's common understanding. A book can have an awesome plot but without great characters to support it, I'm not going to read it. You need a balance of both!!
What about you guys?
And wow! I haven't participated in either meme since early October! I'm going to make use of my holiday break and hopefully visit and find some new blogs to follow! If you stop by, please leave your blog link since it makes it easier for me to return a comment and/or follow!
Well, I'm off to do some blog hopping! *hops away*

^G*^ I got a Degree in biology and a Teaching certification for English (As a language). Lol, I've worked in an office (was more of an inter) doing desk stuff, like a temp (but I learned loads of stuff, like making diagrams and flow charts and work more in Excel) and I also taught Geography for a few months. I liked the desk job more.
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm definitely Team Characters, I agree that a great story will have both, but if I have to pick one, I'm more forgiving of a less than stellar plot and of less than stellar characters.
Oh, you're a first year university student? I hope you're enjoying yourself! I'm currently in my third year.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Hi hopping around , enjoy your break and hope you have a Nice Holiday.
ReplyDeleteI agree there has to be some balance.

ReplyDeleteI love your answers! It was a hard decision for me too, but personally, I think that the story and plotline are equally as important as each other, so I agree.

New Meme: Third Sentence Thursday!
I totally agree that characters and plot go hand in hand! Very difficult to separate the two - in order to have a strong book you need both.
ReplyDeleteThis might be the best Book Blogger Hop question I've seen to date.
ReplyDeleteSo what's the answer? Plot! Hop over to my blog and let me tell you how a good plot rescued bad characters from bad book oblivion.

Happy HOP! First off I'd say both are important to how I enjoy the story but ultimately it's the characters for me. Hope you're enjoying your weekend :)
