Mark Your Calendars Canadians! May Edition

10:41 PM

To my fellow Canadians, are you ready to mark your calendars? Here are some upcoming YA events to look forward to in May!

TD Canadian Children's Book Week

TD Canadian Children's Book Week is a "national event celebrating Canadian children's books and the importance of reading." During this week, Canadian authors, illustrators and storytellers will be visiting schools, libraries, bookstores and community centres in every province and territory across the entire country! Admittedly, the only author I recognize is Lesley Livingston and she'll be visiting several locations across Nova Scotia! The graphic above will lead you to the main website, but if you would like to know the exact dates and locations as well as the other participants in the event, please click here to find out more information!

2011 Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™

The largest children's literary event in Canada will once again be taking place at Harbourfront Centre from May 11-12 in Toronto, Ontario! The age groups you'll be most interested in are Red Maple and White Pine as they cover grades 7-12. There will be many Canadian authors in attendance such as Courtney Summers, Y.S. Lee and many more! It's two days of award ceremonies, author workshops and signings, and other fun activities! You need to purchase a ticket beforehand online I believe to be able to attend the event so more information can be found with that link.

Kelley Armstrong
Canadian author Kelley Armstrong is still continuing her tour for The Gathering! Below are the dates and locations which have been taken from her Appearances page on her website:
Meg Cabot
Meg Cabot will be signing her latest novel, Abandon, at Chapters Queensway on Thursday, May 12 at 7 p.m! You must have a copy of Abandon to be in line with a proof of purchase from any Chapters, Indigo, or Coles location. (I have no idea if she's only signing Abandon though...)

The Dystopian Tour with Lauren Oliver and Veronica Roth!
Lauren Oliver, author of Delirium, and Veronica Roth, author of this year's much buzzed about Divergent, will be in Ontario signing their novels are part of The Dystopian Tour!
***
I think I've covered most of the events occurring this month! I'll definitely be at the Meg Cabot signing on May 12 at Chapters Queensway and there's no way I'm missing on the stops on The Dystopian Tour! I'll be attending the one at Indigo Yorkdale on May 17!

And I really want to go to the Forest of Reading celebration and check out the White Pine event but you need a ticket... and I don't have one. *sigh* In the past couple years, I got to attend because I went with my high school but seeing as I'm a university student now, that makes it rather difficult to get the chance to go... Anyways, I've read quite a few of the White Pine novels and there were some fabulous nominees this year! If you get the lucky chance to go and meet some of the nominated authors, have fun that day and dress warmly!

Will any of you be attending these events?

  1. I'm part of the White Pine club at my school but our school board decided that we would go to the Harbour Front celebration every other year. On the years that we don't go there, all the White Pine clubs in the school board get together and have a celebration. This year we're skipping Harbour Front but we had our celebration last week. It was actually pretty fun! We got to meet three authors (Courtney Summers was one of them!) and they gave presentations throughout the day about writing, publishing, etc. I'm looking forward to going Harbour Front next year though!

I'll definitely be at the Yorkdale stop for The Dystopian Tour! So excited!

  2. OH MY GOSH, LAUREN OLIVER?! Ahhhhhh, I must go! *cry* But I can't! It's two days before my prom! Oh this is the saddest thing ever! Thanks for posting this though. I'm glad you're going! I'll be looking forward for your posts on this tour :)

  3. Thanks for posting about these!! I wish Toronto was just a BIT closer, or that I had someone to drive up with me, because I desperately want to go see Meg Cabot.

  5. OH WHY IN ONTARIO WHY WHY WHY. I so wish the Dystopian tour came to the west.. And why does Kelley Armstrong insist on signing only on the Island? *sniff* ohhhh my poor author-deprived soul xD haha, sorry about that.
I hope you have tons of fun at the signings you're attending! Can't wait to read the recaps and be hit with another wave of jealousy! Yay! xD

  6. Lauren Oliver in Barrie? That is my hometown! Hmmm I am going to have to seriously see if I can get time off work to attend one of the events that week just not sure I can. *sigh*

I really wish I lived closer to Toronto - so many great events come there during the week and I live four hours away. :(

  7. Honey- That sounds cool how they switch it up and bring some of the authors to your school! I met Courtney Summers when she nominated for White Pine with Cracked Up to Be and she was SO NICE! :)

Justine- Awww, too bad you can't make it but have tons of fun at your prom!

Ashley- If you can somehow find a way to come to the Meg Cabot event, that would be awesome!

A Canadian Girl- That would be nice to get the chance to meet you! :)

Audrey- *pats in comfort* I'm sure there will be some amazing events heading your way in the future!

Chrystal- Fours is definitely a long way to drive but it would be sweet if you could make it to one of the events!

  8. I'm jealous that so many of those events are happening in Toronto. I'm in Ottawa and authors rarely make it here because it's not as big a city as Toronto. If only it wasn't a five hour drive to Toronto I would go to so many of these events.

  9. I'd love to go to all of these events but I won't be moving to Toronto until the fall. You're so lucky!

  11. I have never been to a signing at Chapters before. Do you know if we need tickets? Do they check your books to make sure you bought them at the signing? I just got Delirium. I really don't want a second copy already :(

I'm going to the Delirium/Divergent signing in Brampton.
