Spotted! So Many New Covers To Share!

11:00 PM

Hey everyone! Usually, I do separate posts when I spot a new cover but there have been so many covers released recently (especially earlier today!) that I thought I'd spare you the grief of looking at different posts and combine them into one long post! The covers have been revealed in random order...

1) Amy Plum revealed today through the blog A Good Addiction that HarperCollins had decided to give the US cover of her debut novel Die For Me a completely revamped and revised look, resembling more closely to the UK one. (If you didn't know what the old one looked like, you can see my previous WoW pick for the novel here.)

Release Date: May 10, 2011
Summary:
When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life—and memories—behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant—an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

In this incandescent debut, newcomer Amy Plum has created a powerful paranormal mythology with immortal revenants. The Paris setting comes enchantingly alive as a relentless struggle between good and evil takes place in its streets. Rich with romance, atmosphere, and thrills, Die for Me will leave readers breathlessly awaiting its sequel.

My Thoughts: Wow! I loved the old one with its dark and edgy background, but this one is also very beautiful. The gorgeous red and the backdrop of Paris will definitely catch more eyes for sure!

2) Stephanie Perkins revealed the cover of Lola and the Boy Next Door, the companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss, today on her blog along with the plot description! (You can read my gushing review of Anna and the French Kiss here.)

Release Date: September 29, 2011
Summary:
In this companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss, two teens discover that true love may be closer than they think.

For budding costume designer Lola Nolan, the more outrageous the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins move back into the house next door.

When the family returns and Cricket—a gifted inventor and engineer—steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

My Thoughts: Light and fun! I love Lola's purple hair... and we actually get to see the guy this time!

3) Ally Condie revealed the cover of Crossed, the second novel in the Matched trilogy, today on her blog. I bought Matched the week it came out yet I still haven't read it, so I have no idea if the synopsis below is considered spoilery or not. Read at your own risk just in case then, ok?

Release Date: November 1, 2011
Summary:
In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky — taken by the Society to his certain death — only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.

Cassia’s quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander — who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia’s heart — change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.

My Thoughts: I love how they've kept a similar concept to the cover of Matched and how they're showing Cassia beginning to break free from the Society. I wonder if the third cover will be Cassia outside the bubble? Hmm...

4) Andrea Cremer's revealed the new revised (and totally different) cover of Wolfsbane, the sequel to Nightshade, on her blog today where you can also check out the new look for paperback version of Nightshade as well. (If you don't recall the old beautiful look for Wolfsbane, you can see the author's previous cover reveal post here.) Again, I bought Nightshade when it was first released but haven't read it yet either... so read the available plot description at your own risk because I'm not sure if it's spoilery or not...

Release Date: July 26, 2011
Summary:
This thrilling sequel to the much-talked-about Nightshade begins just where it ended.Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemy, and she's certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer, one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack and the man she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.

My Thoughts: To be honest, my first reaction was complete disappointment. After studying it some more, I've backpedaled somewhat but I still can't say I really like it. A Twitition has even been started to get the cover changed back to the old one. (Sorry, I don't have the heart to post the new cover of the paperback version of Nightshade because I'm not a fan of it either...)

5) Maureen Johnson revealed the cover of The Name of the Star, the first in her upcoming Shade of London series, last week on her blog.

Release Date: September 20, 2011
Summary:
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it’s the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a
series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.

Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn’t notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.
My Thoughts: I was expecting something a bit better to go along with what sounds like is going to be an amazing new series but I think this cover can grown on me. It just sort of feels like they took a few different pictures, added in a slight faded look and then slopped on the title... that's all. I know I'm probably being just a little bit harsh, but like I said, I think I can come to like it more. My favourite aspect is the ghostly guy!

6) Scott Westerfeld also revealed today on his blog the cover of Goliath, the final novel in his steampunk Leviathan series.  I haven't read the second novel Behemoth yet but I've read and reviewed the first novel Leviathan, which I really enjoyed.

Release Date: September 20, 2011
Summary:
The final book in Westerfeld's masterful trilogy that SLJ reviewed as “sure to become a classic.”
My Thoughts:
I like it! I think it will appeal to both girls and boys and I have a feeling it's one of those covers that will look even better when it's sitting on a shelf.

  7. The 'Lola' cover is sweet... it's not my favourite, but neither is the 'Anna' cover, but I still absolutely adoreeee the book, so I'm sure it'll be the same for this one. I agree, though, it's nice to see the guy as well.

The new 'Die For Me' cover is fantastic! I love it a lot more than the old cover.

The 'Goliath' cover is fantastic! I love the colour scheme, and I think it's the best of the portrait covers.

  8. Can't wait for Lola and the Boy Next Door! That cover is adorable (and we see the guy's face this time!)

Like you, I'm totally not thrilled with the new Wolfsbane cover (seriously, no idea why they'd change it, it was so gorgeous before). I'm mixed about Crossed — her pose looks a bit awkward but it's nice that it keeps with the symbolism of the first cover and shows a progression. Plus, I love the blue. Now I'm wondering what the book 3 cover will be...maybe there will be no bubble at all? O_O
