Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine spotlighting upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

 Release Date: January 1, 2013
Publisher: Scholastic Point

Summary (from Goodreads):
A haunted house, a buried mystery, and a very angry ghost make this one unforgettable thriller.

Jade loves the house she's just moved into with her family. She doesn't even mind being the new girl at the high school: It's a fresh start, and there's that one guy with the dreamy blue eyes. . . . But then things begin happening. Strange, otherworldly things. Jade's little brother claims to see a glimmering girl in his room. Jade's jewelry gets moved around, as if by an invisible hand. Kids at school whisper behind her back like they know something she doesn't.

Soon, Jade must face an impossible fact: that her perfect house is haunted. Haunted by a ghost who's seeking not just vengeance, but the truth. The ghost of a girl who ruled Jade's school — until her untimely death last year. It's up to Jade to put the pieces together before her own life is at stake. As Jade investigates the mystery, she discovers that her new friends in town have more than a few deep, dark secrets. But is one of them a murderer?

Kim Harrington recently revealed on her blog that her publisher had decided to go with a completely new cover for her upcoming novel, The Dead and Buried. How do you feel about the cover change? I thought the old cover for The Dead and Buried was dark, creepy and captured the haunted house so well, whereas the concept for this one has a different direction. I do think the older cover could have passed off the book as being MG, but this one seems to be older and more YA-oriented.

Thoughts on the cover aside, I cannot wait to read The Dead and Buried! I really loved both of Kim Harrington's previous YA novels, Clarity and Perception, so I'm hoping I'll feel the same way about her new book too. A haunted house, an angry ghost, and a town hiding dark secrets... it all sounds so thrilling!

  1. While I think that the old cover fits the summary better, I'd definitely be more interested in picking up the book with the new cover. Nonetheless I'm not really sure whether I'll read this, because it definitely seems to have an MG touch to it and I don't really read that genre. Hope you'll like it though! :)

  2. This cover is so gorgeous - although it really has a less creepy feel. I think I'd be more inclined to pick up this cover 'cause I'm not really into ghosts! Great pick, though!

  3. I loved Harrignton's Clarity series, so I can't wait to read this one!! I love the old cover. Like you said, it captures what the book is about perfectly. Although this one is enticing as well. I can't pick!

  5. I don't know if I love either cover. I definitely got a MG feel from the old one, but it felt kind of creepy. The new one makes it more YA, but the cover is kind of generic.
