"These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume."
—Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

The most tragic love story in history...

Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.

My Thoughts:
I love reading Stacey Jay’s novels… so when I first heard about her latest novel and the cool concept of bringing a twist to Romeo & Juliet, it became an instant must-read! And if you're not a fan of Shakespeare’s works, then don't worry because it isn’t required to make you fall in love with the novel!

We already know that when Juliet falls for someone, she falls very hard and quickly… and no stretch of time will truly change that. For over 700 years, Juliet has been working tirelessly for the Ambassadors of Light, fighting a battle in the name of love and saving souls against the Mercenaries and Romeo, the husband who betrayed her for an immortal life. When Juliet is sent into the body of Ariel Dragland to help her, little does she ever suspect that she could fall in love again…

Stacey Jay has breathed new life into characters we all thought we knew and given them new dimension. Juliet has lost her naivety and grown steadily wiser over time, learning from her past mistakes to help fuel her revenge against Romeo. And while Juliet finds herself growing closer and closer to Ben, she also knows that she can’t be distracted from her task… not when Romeo is always close behind, bringing danger along with him.

Romeo, oh Romeo… He could be sweet and charming one moment, and then pure evil and violent the next time! He’s a twisted, tortured soul after years of wandering Earth without being able to truly feel anything… and yet, you still hope he can find redemption for his actions.

Until the very last page, I was left wondering what would happen next and after reading the book, I kept thinking how I should have figured out how the puzzles would fall in place. I guess my skills at predicting events failed me this time because I didn’t see it until it actually happened. There was plenty of excitement and surprises to be discovered… and I love how Stacey Jay kept me on my toes the entire time!

The first in a two-part series, Juliet Immortal didn’t disappoint and I’m already eagerly looking forward to reading Romeo Redeemed! Juliet’s story may have reached a fitting conclusion… but there is definitely more to Romeo than meets the eye. I can’t wait to see what will happen!

  1. This will have a sequel?? I didn't know that! I've heard nothing but good things about this one and am dying to read it, but maybe I'll put it off a little longer, until the sequel is out (if my self-control holds that is).
    Thanks for the review!

  2. Weirdly, I'm NOT a fan of Shakespeare (I found it torture having to read Romeo and Juliet in high school. I just really don't like his writing style) but I've been crazy excited for this because it sounds SO awesome. Romeo sounds fantastic... okay, in a complicated way. I love those twisted type of characters. Great review, I am so happy this lives up to expectations!

  3. Ooh the next book is called Romeo Redeemed? From what I've heard, he's a complete psycho in this book, so wondering how the next book will play out! Glad you enjoyed this one, I'm definitely intrigued by the concept! Great review :).

  4. i'm really looking forward to reading this. I'm not a huge fan of remakes...sometimes they are just too out there. But this could be interesting. I love the cover, and oh I totally didn't know it had a sequal. Fun.

  5. Oh, you make me want to read this one NOW!

and I didn't know there was another book either! It could be fun! I'll try to get this one- I have it someone in my to buy list, but for some reason I bumped it down...

  10. I love that the story is so different from the Romeo and Juliet we all know. Now I'm really wondering whether Juliet will be with Romeo or Ben.

  11. I didn't know this one was going to have a sequel. Regardless, I have this one on my wishlist. I wasn't huge fan of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet but I'm excited to see Jay's twist on it since I really enjoyed her Megan Berry series.

  12. Man, I definitely want to pick this one up!

  13. Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed this. The Locket was only mm-okay for me so to hear that Juliet Immortal got 4.5 stars seems like it really did well. :) Can't wait to read it! XD

  14. I wasn't sure about this one because I am a total Shakespeare nerd, but you've changed my mind! I'm SO EXCITED to hear Juliet has lost her naivete -- that's always bugged me about the play. The picture you paint of Romeo is intriguing too -- how immortality has twisted him. Great review!

  15. This is a disappointment to anyone who is a true Shakespearian. This story distorts everything about Romeo and Juliet and the ending is worse than the star crossed lovers dying for each other.
