Summary (from Goodreads):
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. One of my favourite genres to read right now is definitely high fantasy, so I'm absolutely loving how there are several YA books being released this year that fit under that category! Throne of Glass, the first in a new series by debut author Sarah J. Maas, is just one of those books I can't wait to get my hands on and learn more about the dangerous world the author has envisioned! Assassins, warriors, action and romance.... seriously, what is not to like?
Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
And if you read on Sarah J. Maas's website about how she first came up with the idea for the book, then I think you'll also agree with me that it's cool that Throne of Glass was also inspired by the fairy tale Cinderella! I cannot wait to read this book!

DeleteI only heard about this last week and already have it on my must read list. Seems like there is so much great fantasy books coming out.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to this one for so long! I think it was originally supposed to pub last year and then it got pushed back, so it feels like it has been a long time coming, LOL. I'm not thrilled with the cover, but I have high hopes the story inside will be awesome!
