Waiting on Wednesday (67) - First Comes Love by Katie Kacvinsky

8:00 AM

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine spotlighting upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

Release Date: May 8, 2012
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children

Summary (from Goodreads):
Like his name, Gray is dark and stormy. Dylan, a girl always searching for what's next, seemingly unable to settle down, is the exact opposite: full of light and life. On the outside, they seem like an unlikely couple. But looks can be deceiving and besides, opposites attract.

What starts as friendship, turns into admiration, respect and caring, until finally these two lone souls find they are truly in love with each other.

But staying in love is not as easy as falling in love. If Dylan and Gray want their love to last, they're going to have to work at it. And learn that sometimes love means having to say you're sorry.
I'm always on the lookout for romantic contemporary novels because in a sea of paranormal and dystopian novels, they're not always so easy to find anymore. When I first heard about First Comes Love, I just knew I had to add to my always growing plan-to-read list! By the sounds of it, the novel seems sort of dark and bittersweet, but I'm sure it will be a love story I'll enjoy seeing unfold too.

In an author interview I had with Katie Kavinsky back in March, she described the novel as being more of a "kind of a teen angst coming-of-age story," so I think it should be good! And First Comes Love sounds so different from her dystopian novel Awaken... can't wait to read it!

  1. Ohh, I haven't heard of this one yet either! *adds to wishlist* As much as I love all YA genres, sometimes a really good contemporary is just what's needed to take a break from the rest. Although, you're right, this one might be a little bittersweet.

    Thanks for sharing, Liz!

And I'm with you, I like to read some straight contemporary in the sea of paranormal and dystopian. :D

I totally agree with you about the abundance of Paranormal Romance in YA. I seriously need more contemporary. I recently read Lola and it was so refreshing reading it. Besides, It's Stephanie Perkins! It was an amazing read guaranteed! =D

Thanks for stopping by ^__^ muah!

  6. LOL I'm exactly the same way! Even though I'm drowning in paranormal and urban fantasy and dystopian and such, I'm always looking for an awesome contemporary novel in between the stacks! There's no doubt I'm adding this one to my TBR list! :)

Awesome pick for your WOW, Liz!

  7. I like that the synopsis makes a distinction between falling in love and staying in love...I'm interested to see how that is carried out in the story!
