Summary:
I don't do dangerous.

Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

My Thoughts:
Dark Kiss is an absolutely addicting paranormal read! I was fascinated by Michelle Rowen's fresh take on angels and demons, and eagerly devoured the novel to learn what would happen next. I thought it was foolish of Samantha to accept the kiss of her unattainable crush without questioning his intentions and sudden interest in her, but she certainly pays a great price for it: her soul. Led by a mysterious person known as The Source, her crush is now a being who feeds off human souls... and Samantha has just unwittingly become a "gray" too.

It would seem that Bishop's mission is doomed to fail. Sent from heaven, his mind has become a jumbled mess since coming to the human world and it's only with Samantha's touch that he regains lucidity. Curiously enough, she also seems to be the only person who can see the signals which show him where he can find the rest of his team members; it's only with their additional help that they'll be able to deal with the threat which the grays pose to mankind. Bishop may have a dangerous task ahead of him, but he can't help feeling drawn to Samantha and wanting to know everything about her, much like she feels the same way about him.

I'm sorry Bishop, but I think I'm siding with Team Kraven! Kraven is a demon who cares for Samantha more than he lets on in the book. There's a noticeable electric chemistry between the pair, and I loved the exchange of snide remarks they tended to share with each other. Bishop may be the central love interest in Dark Kiss, but I guess I just can't help falling for an irresistible bad boy...

I felt that describing Samantha as "special" and "different" was rather overused and repetitive after awhile, but I generally didn't fault the book for much else. I was really curious about Samantha's mysterious abilities which suddenly surfaced, and when we finally got answers, I gasped aloud because the thought had never occurred in my mind! I'm sure the next book in the two-part series, Wicked Kiss, is going to be even better. I can't wait to read it!

  1. I'm generally kind of iffy when it comes to angel books but your review has me super curious. Plus I've enjoyed some of her other writing!
